In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, in 2019, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+. The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S4E14 A Friend in Need: “Friendship shows us who we really are.” A peace conference between Separatist and Republic representatives on Mandalore is interrupted by Lux Bonteri. Bonteri and Ahsoka get tangled up with the terrorist group Deathwatch. S4E15 Deception: “The General Kenobi fakes his death to go undercover as the bounty hunter Rako Hardeen. Anakin and Ahsoka believes Obi-Wan to be dead while Obi-Wan extracts information from the conspirators on the inside. S4E16 Friends and Enemies: “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.” A disguised Obi-Wan flees across the country with Moralo Eval and Cad Bane. However, they are pursued by Anakin and Ahsoka who still think Obi-Wan is dead. S4E17 The Box: “The strong survive, the noble overcome.” After arriving on Serenno, Count Dooku decides to have the bounty hunters compete to determine who will participate in a plot to kidnap the Chancellor. S4E18 Crisis on Naboo: “Trust is the greatest of gifts, but it must be earned.” Dooku’s plot to kidnap the Chancellor comes to fruition and an undercover Obi-Wan must save the day. S4E19 Massacre: “One must let go of the past to hold on to the future.” Count Dooku launches an attack on Dathomir after learning that Ventress has returned to take up the mantle of a true Night Sister. S4E20 Bounty: “Who we are never changes, who we think we are does.” Asajj Ventress finds herself teaming up with Boba Fett, Bossk and other bounty hunters in a mission that will determine what she will do next with her life. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Dave Filoni directed the Mandalore episodes this season and Jon Favreau returned to portray his character, Pre Vizsla. Seeing these episodes again makes me confident that “The Mandlorian” on Disney+ is in good hands with Filoni and Favreau. Kate Sackhoff appears as Bo-Katan, which she reprises in Star Wars: Rebels. Obi-Wan says that his codename will be Ben which he uses again in “A New Hope.” “Friends and Enemies” is the first time we see the Gamorrean Guards. Daniel Logan reprises his role as Boba Fett in “Deception.” Unfortunately, lying to Anakin about Obi-Wan’s death only lead him to be persuaded more by Chancellor Palpatine. In “Crisis On Naboo” during the Festival of Lights, one of the fireworks that Palpatine launches looks like the Star Wars opening crawl. Also, many characters with ties to Naboo can bee seen in the audience. “Massacre” is the first time we see Asajj Ventress since season three. This is also the first time we see the Night Sisters and Mother Talzin since the season three finale. While season three had some of the strongest stories, season four had the strongest animation. I would love a bit more magic and fantasy to return to Star Wars. There’s been too much of the “enemy lines” in Star Wars recently. Clare Grant, Meredith Salenger and Simon Pegg all guest star in “Bounty.” Daniel Logan is again Boba Fett (twice this week, only two times the entire season). Katie Lucas does a phenomenal job writing for Ventress. I am curious to see if Ventress will return for season seven since we know how her story ends with “Dark Disciple” and I wonder if Katie Lucas would even write any more episodes with her father not involved. I don’t like that the episode “Bounty” skips forward to where we see Ventress with a team again. The cantina band stops playing when Ventress kills a man. That gimmick is becoming super over-played but it makes it feel like Star Wars. Bossk and Dengar are both in the episode “Bounty.” It isn’t clear how Boba escaped prison but it must have occurred when Obi-Wan and Cad Bane broke out. BEST OF THE BATCH
My favorite episode this week was “Massacre” because it gave me another taste of voodoo magic and Ventress. The army of the undead was super cool and it lead into another great episode, “Bounty.” Plus, I know this helps set up next week’s RETURN OF DARTH MAUL. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. May the Force be with you, always. [email protected] @GrahamWoodMedia
