In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+ in February 2020. The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S4E21 Brothers: “A fallen enemy may rise again, but the reconciled one is truly vanquished.” After fighting Count Dooku, Savage Opress is sent on a quest to find his long-lost brother…Darth Maul. S4E22 Revenge: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” In the season four finale, a gruesome spider-legged Maul returns to Dathomir to meet with Mother Talzin. While there, the witch returns the former Sith lord to his former glory. With the help of his brother, Savage Opress, Maul is destined to get his revenge. S5E2 A War on Two Fronts: “Fear is a malleable weapon.” Ahsoka, Rex, Anakin and Obi-Wan travel to Onderon to assist a group of rebels trying to take back the capital city from Separatist control. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Sam Witwer makes a triumphant splash as Darth Maul. Clancy Brown returns as Savage Opress. Maul says, “We shall start with revenge” which foreshadows the rise of his criminal empire, the siege of Mandalore, his control of Crimson Dawn in Solo, and finally, his second fall from grace in Star Wars: Rebels. The season five premiere “Revival” is actually the 13th episode in chronological order. The home release fixes this problem. We see Lux Bonteri again, this time he is teamed up with Saw Gerrera (who later appears in Rogue one and Rebels, played by Forest Whitaker) and his sister, Steela. I’d like to think they are the founders of the rebellion. I’d love to see more of Ahsoka and Lux’s relationship. The capital city is called Iziz but it sounds like Isis. Just saying. Hondo Ohnaka returns in “Tipping Points.” Steela’s death sets a history of rebellion (and sometimes terrosim) in Saw. If it weren’t for this, Saw may not have raised Jyn Erso and the death star plans may not have made it to the rebellion. BEST OF THE BATCH
There is no competition. The return of Maul in “Brothers” and his attack in “Revenge” made for one hour of must-see television and left huge ramifications for the Star Wars universe. Sam Witwer is the perfect voice for Maul and has been a part of the Lucasfilm family ever since. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. May the Force be with you, always.
