In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+ in February 2020. The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S5E12 Missing in Action: “A soldier’s most powerful weapon is courage.” The D-Squad finds a town in the void where they enlist the help of a clone command who can’t remember where he came from. They must steel a separatist ship to escape the planet. S5E13 Point of No Return: “You must trust in others or success is impossible.” The D-Squad meet up with a Republic cruiser but soon realize that the ship is a separatist trap, a bomb armed to trick Republic officers. S5E1 Revival: “Strength in character can defeat strength in numbers.” Maul has returned from the dead and he is fueled by rage and a need for revenge. His vengeance crosses paths with Hondo Ohnaka and Obi-Wan. S5E14 Eminence: “One vision can have many interpretations.” Pre Vizsla and the rest of Death Watch rescue Maul and Savage from their encounter with Kenobi. Maul creates a criminal empire with Black Sun, the Pykes and the Hutts. S5E15 Shades of Reason: “Alliances can stall true intentions.” Maul’s plan for Mandalore begins. Each of the crime syndicates launch attacks across the planet and Death Watch “rescues” the city from the attacks. S5E16 The Lawless: “Morality separates heroes from villains.” Maul uses Duchess Satine as bait to lure Obi-Wan into a trap. Darth Sidious has plans for his former apprentice. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker In “Missing in Action” it says Gregor went missing during The Battle of Sarish, one of the republics most devastating losses. I would definitely like to see more of that battle. The republic cruisers are starting to look a lot more like the Empire’s ships. The explosion of the Republic cruiser is one of the coolest animated shots I’ve seen in this series. Hondo and Maul both return in “Revenge.” Palpatine and Yoda both received redesigns in this episode. This shows how close the series is getting to the events of “Revenge of the Sith.” Ian Ambercrombie passed away and was replaced by Tim Curry for the role of Palpatine. However, Ian Mcdiarmid would later reprise the role in “Rebels” and other performances. John Favreau returns as Pre Vizsla and Katee Sackhoff returns as Bo-Katan The Hutts, Pirates, Death Watch, the Pykes and Black Sun are just a few of the crime syndicates rising to power. Crymorah and later Crimson Dawn were the other crime lords. The Pykes can be seen in “Solo.” Bo-Katan Kryze is revealed to be Duchess Satine Kryze’s sister. Now that Maul rules Mandalore, the armor is green and red, resembling Boba Fett more than Jango Fett. Satine’s death is one of the saddest moments in all of Star Wars. The Son of Dathomir comic follows this arc. We can expect to see more of Darth Maul in season seven of “The Clone Wars” bridging the gap between this and his appearance in “Solo.” BEST OF THE BATCH
Every episode in this batch is perfect. I have to give an honorable mention to the D-Squad arc because it was split between two weeks and was great. This week, Maul’s takeover of Mandalore is the best arc. All four episodes were incredible but “The Lawless” is the best episode of the week, of season five, and possible one of the top ten episodes of the series. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always. [email protected] @GrahamWoodMedia
