In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+ in February 2020. The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S5E17 Sabotage “Sometimes even the smallest doubt can shake the greatest belief.” Anakin and Ahsoka investigate a bombing at the Jedi temple. S5E18 Jedi Who Knew Too Much: “Courage begins by trusting oneself.” Ahsoka is sabotages for the Jedi temple bombing. S5E19 To Catch a Jedi: “Never become desperate enough to trust the untrustworthy.” Ahsoka is a fugitive on the run. S5E20 The Wrong Jedi: “Never give up hope, no matter how dark things seem.” Ahsoka faces a senate trial. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker In “Sabotage” the boiling point to this war is starting. Opposition against the clones and the Jedi have people rioting in the streets. The Jedi guards, Tooka cats and more can be seen in this batch of episodes. These are all elements that return in “Star Wars: Rebels.” Tarkin and Ventress both return for these episodes. The Republic looks nearly identical to the Empire at this point. Ahsoka’s story is what makes “The Clone Wars” perfect. Fans don’t deserve her. We can see that the Jedi and the Sith aren’t so black and white. BEST OF THE BATCH When scheduling out this rewatch I wanted to make sure that Ahsoka’s initial finale, her arc, wasn’t pushed up against any other stories. These last four episodes are so strong and important to the last decade of Star Wars storytelling. Back in 2013 we thought this was the end of The Clone Wars. No one expected it to come back with a season six and now the upcoming seventh season. Back in 2013, we thought this was the end of Ahsoka. Then she returned in a novel, in “Rebels” and in multiple stories. We had a lot of unanswered questions, but no one could deny that this ending was emotional and perfectly contrived. The entire batch is great, but there is no scene more inspired than the last shot of Ahsoka walking away from the Jedi Order. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always. [email protected] @GrahamWoodMedia
